Internet Enabling the Database

Situation:
One of the largest Internet Media companies was looking to make its database scalable, internet centric and with high availability.
Critical Issue:
The email sites under development were not able to support even a small of number of users and the Company was looking to build a strong presence in the market.
Vision:
The sites should be able to handle any of number of users and should be up and running all the time.

Result:
More than 200 email sites are up and running with steady increase in the number of customers. 

Maintaining and creating Citrix Metaframe Farm

Situation:
The Fortune 500 retail client of VIVA had an existing farm consisting of 16 servers, but the software and servers were old. They wanted to replace it with a leaner and meaner farm as well as port the same technology as a farm to a new location.
Critical Issue:
All 5000 users were unable to connect to the farm which in turn reduced performance and redundancy.
Vision:
New enhanced farm with new servers and upgraded software which can handle increased number of users and application.
Solution Provided by VIVA Consultants:
VIVA Consultants created a new farm with just 7 DELL servers replacing 16 Compaq servers from the old farm. The old logins were sorted out and removed and 3000 active users from the old farm were successfully migrated to the new farm. The new client software was again successfully rolled out with the help of IBM to 1100 locations and were properly implemented. New performance monitoring tools were put into place which would alert the concerned people if anything went wrong in the farm
Result:
Over 400 simultaneous connections happen without a problem. A user gets faster and more reliable response from the application. For the enterprise, the system provides for a higher level of redundancy and up time. This in turn leads to a lower TCO (Total Cost of Ownership).

Situation:
Client-server based multi-layered Network Management System to provide end to end light path provisioning, maintenance, surveillance and performance management using Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing(DWDM) Technology.
Critical Issue:
Integration of different layers making the system run with the implemented functionality to assure complete communication between layers.
Vision:
Integrating all the layers/modules by getting individual groups together and resolving inter-layer interface issues . Implementation of standardized processes.
Solution Provided by VIVA Consultants:
VIVA Consultants took the lead in the effort to integrate and to put the standard processes together (e.g. setting up coding standards, improved communication between groups). VIVA Consultants was also actively involved in helping developers with complex debugging and setting up the individual debugging platform to allow for parallel work.
Result:
The completion of this exercise was within budget and within schedule. One running version is currently being formally tested.

Situation:
A Silicon valley start up was building a collaborative messaging system that gives people unprecedented ability to easily distribute, collaborate on and interact with information in real-time using email.
Critical Issue:
Email is a static medium whose utility breaks down quickly with interactions involving multiple users and/or issues requiring real-time responses. Also most applications used are not accessible through the email conduit although each of these applications arise out of, or result in an email activity whose relevance is time sensitive.
Vision:
Design and build a robust and scalable system that will allow companies to “inbox-enable” their existing applications and deliver them to users through ANY email client interface. Build a Tool Set, that even non-engineers can quickly and easily develop new applications for lightweight workflow automation such as scheduling and document approval.
Solution Provided by VIVA Consultants:
VIVA Consultants helped design and develop a platform independent flexible database schema utilizing Java, XML, Oracle 8i to store diverse message formats without requiring any modifications to the database. The system has the ability to interface with enterprise CRM, ERP, applications and data stores using XML exchange on fixed IP ports, EJB data exchange, and extraction / wrapping of SMTP messages.
Result:
Intelligent email is born. Ability to quickly and easily design and automate specific business processes and keep track real-time email. Extend the company’s existing CRM and ERP applications to the Email Inbox to deliver the intelligence and output of existing applications via email.
